Who is the Furman University Class of 2010? Last week 684 freshmen, 32 transfers and four exchange students arrived at Furman to continue their education, according to Woody O'Cain, director of admissions.
The incoming freshmen hail from 38 states and 22 countries including Argentina, Moldova and Niger. Showcasing a broad array of talents, The class includes five all-state musicians, seven Katrina Relief Helpers, 18 Eagle Scouts and five recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Leadership and academics also highlight this class's strengths. The group, whose average SAT score is 1268, claims 34 student body presidents, 14 National Merit winners, and 24 Model UN members.
Star athletes can also be found in the group, such as the 16 equestrian team members, two black belts in martial arts and a marathon runner. The number one ranked tennis player in Kenya is also attending Furman this year, as is a two-time champion in the Iron Kids Triathlon. The class of 2010 also features five all-state athletes and a former member of the U.S. National Team for the Junior World Championships in cycling.
