The Kill-a-Watt challenge is designed to do precisely that: kill watts. The challenge is an annual competition, now in its fourth year, that is sponsored by the Environmental Action Group, Residential LIfe Council and the Center for Sustainability held between North Village buildings to encourage energy conservation. But with a stroke of irony, instead of saving money and wattage, students are above the levels of previous energy usage for this time of year.

The quest for sustainability has affected many parts of the Furman experience. As the class of 2010 prepares for graduation, now even commencement is receiving the green treatment as Furman switches from purchasing to renting caps and gowns.

At Furman University we have the SGA shuttle, known conventionally as the "drunk bus," which is available Friday and Saturday night to take you pretty much anywhere, from 10:15 p.m. to 2:15 a.m. The purpose of the drunk bus is to provide students with transportation in case they drink a little more than they planned or just need a safe and reliable ride off campus. On Friday night, I took a ride on the drunk bus to reveal exactly what happens during the span of a typical night.
